Anthropic, OpenAI and SpaceX plan a nearly $300 billion charity donation
According to The Washington Post, three US companies — Anthropic, OpenAI and SpaceX — are planning wealth donations worth nearly $300 billion. It could become the biggest charity move in modern history.
Anthropic will put 5% of its shares into a new charity fund. If the company lists at a $2 trillion value, the fund could reach $100 billion, and its seven founders will give away 80% of their personal wealth. OpenAI's charity arm holds about a quarter of the company, worth over $180 billion. Musk also plans to gift a SpaceX share to every child in the US next year, worth more than $11 billion in total.
The report notes that most of these donations are unlisted shares or future promises, so the real value depends on future stock listings and prices. It may also be a way to answer worries that AI could hurt jobs and social stability.
