Google DeepMind Wants Workers Who Keep Learning Outside School
AI talent competition is heating up, and top research labs are changing how they hire. Learning outside the classroom is becoming a key factor.
Lila Ibrahim, a Google DeepMind executive, said degrees still matter, but hiring now puts more weight on candidates' experiences. One credential shows what someone learned, while several credentials show a habit of continuous learning. New graduates now list their self-taught skills in detail on resumes, which helps show curiosity and a readiness to keep learning.
She believes diverse learning experiences make people better at asking questions, something schools do not teach well. In the AI era, getting answers costs almost nothing, but knowing how to ask good questions is getting harder.
