Meta invests over $50 billion in Louisiana data center, boosting computing power to 5GW
Meta announced it's expanding its data center in Richland Parish, Louisiana, USA, to 5 gigawatts of computing power. This is one of the biggest AI infrastructure investments globally. The project costs over $50 billion, used for building facilities and training workers.
Meta says it will cover all energy, water, and infrastructure costs, not passing them to consumers. It's also investing over $1 billion to upgrade local roads, water, and sewage systems.
To power the data center, Meta made a deal with Entergy to fund seven new natural gas plants, three grid-scale batteries, and nuclear power upgrades. This ensures stable energy for AI computing expansion.
