Most Americans want AI companies to share profits through a public fund
A new survey shows that with tech companies cutting jobs while profits keep growing, 69% of Americans support forcing AI firms to put 50% of their shares into a public fund. Verasight surveyed 1,690 adults in June. Senator Bernie Sanders proposed a bill in June to create this fund, saying it would make sure AI's gains help all Americans, not just Silicon Valley billionaires. Goldman Sachs economist Joseph Briggs predicts AI could replace over 9% of workers (15 million jobs) in 10 years, but says the impact is temporary and AI will create new jobs. Windfall Trust says the fund can support AI infrastructure and invest in AI companies, but must balance public interest with global competition.
