OpenAI launches full GPT-5.6 model series, traffic doubles and quota policies adjusted

OpenAI has officially released all three models of the GPT-5.6 series to all users: GPT-5.6 Sol, GPT-5.6 Terra, and GPT-5.6 Luna. Traffic has doubled compared to previous peaks. To handle the surge, OpenAI reset usage quotas for ChatGPT Work and Codex users multiple times over the weekend and temporarily lifted the 5-hour limit for Plus, Business, and Pro subscribers. A new inference optimization for GPT-5.6 Sol is expected to boost available quotas by about 10%. Additionally, OpenAI expanded the Banked Reset feature to web and mobile apps, now covering around 500,000 users. Competitor Anthropic extended its Claude Fable 5 promotion to July 19, keeping a 50% quota increase for Claude Code.
