Codewiki, introduced by Google in November 2025, is an AI-native documentation fabric built for Google Cloud customers and currently available in public preview at codewiki.google. It rethinks how teams document code by turning documentation into a living resource instead of a stale afterthought.
Powered by Gemini, Codewiki scans entire repositories after every commit, regenerating hyperlinked documentation and injecting diagrams along the way. That means engineers no longer dig through outdated wikis—what they read is always current, accurate, and connected across pages.
Every Codewiki page also includes a Gemini chat agent that answers natural-language questions using the documentation as context. New contributors can ramp up faster, while SREs and auditors can find what they need without hunting through source code.
For teams working outside the cloud, Google is also developing a Gemini CLI extension for local use, extending Codewiki's automation to private or air-gapped repositories so on-premises codebases get the same always-fresh documentation experience.
