OtterTune

Database performance bottlenecks can silently kill application speed and inflate cloud costs. OtterTune was an AI-powered automated database tuning service, born out of research at Carnegie Mellon University, that optimized MySQL and PostgreSQL databases running on Amazon RDS and Aurora. It could increase performance by up to 4x and reduce costs by up to 50% by intelligently monitoring and optimizing knobs, resources, indexes, tables, queries, autovacuum settings, and more — without requiring deep DBA expertise. While OtterTune is no longer active, it represented a pioneering step in AI-driven database optimization.
