35 US Tech Companies Call for Support of Open-Weight AI Models
Microsoft, Nvidia, Meta, and other US tech companies have signed an open letter calling for support of open-weight AI models. The signatories have now grown to 35, including newcomers like OpenAI, Cisco, and Cohere.
Open-weight models are AI models that anyone can download, inspect, modify, and run on their own infrastructure. The signers believe this approach helps expand innovation opportunities, strengthen competition, and reduce risks, bringing AI into all areas of life while preventing benefits from being concentrated among a few players.
The open letter emphasizes that open-weight models can effectively promote technology democratization. With more companies joining, this initiative is gaining broader industry support, aiming to influence US government policy on open-source AI models.
