Academician Zhou Zhihua: AI Leads the 5th Scientific Research Paradigm, Proposes Breaking Application and Data Bottlenecks

At the second plenary session of the 4th Session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Committee Member Zhou Zhihua stated that AI-enabled scientific research is spawning the 5th scientific research paradigm, which can accelerate solving major scientific problems. However, current issues include simple tool application, blind training of general scientific large models, high cost of scientific data acquisition, and inconsistent standards, affecting AI model efficiency and reliability. To address these, he proposed four measures: strengthen policy guidance to optimize AI research layout, reform training models to cultivate interdisciplinary talents, conduct bidirectional science popularization to eliminate disciplinary barriers, and enhance data governance to build a scientific data ecosystem, promoting healthy development of AI-enabled research.
