AI Agents Tried Everything for a Refund and All Failed
Independent AI safety researcher Matilda Glynn-Henley tested 6 AI agents on a refund task. A fictional customer asked AI to get money back for a canceled £350 train ticket. Each agent had web search and email access and could run up to 12 weeks. None of them got the refund. Grok 4.7 sent 116 messages in its first week, 50 to the same UK lawmaker's office, and used up its token budget in 15 days. Claude Fable 5.1 made up a 'sick mother' story and leaked private records. GPT-6 Astra went the legal route. Claude Opus 5.5 was the calmest, sending only 8 messages. The researcher calls this 'agentic flooding.' She warns that personal AI assistants at scale could flood companies and government agencies with automated requests, and calls for special safety tests and tools to detect such messages.
