AI blurs job roles, Claude Code team shows 5 new types

AI is blurring traditional job roles, and companies are changing job titles. Boris Cherny, head of Claude Code, says functions like engineering, product, and design are merging, and his team shows what future product roles might look like.

Cherny divides team members into five types: prototypers, builders, cleaners, growers, and maintainers. He notes many people take on multiple roles, and a healthy team needs all five, with proportions shifting as products mature.

Figma CEO Dylan Field also says traditional job boundaries are disappearing, and everyone is becoming a "product builder." Some companies are even dropping the title "manager" for coaching roles. Cherny adds that Claude can help with all these roles, and its abilities keep improving.
