AI Field Lacks Unified Chinese Name for Token; Experts Propose 'Moyuan' as Exclusive Translation
The core measurement unit 'Token' in the AI field currently has no unified Chinese name. At Nvidia's GTC 2026 conference, it was mentioned over 70 times, but the lack of a consistent translation drew attention.
Recently, Tencent Research Institute published an article by Yang Bin, dean of Tsinghua University's Sustainable Social Value Research Institute, proposing 'Moyuan' as the exclusive Chinese translation for AI Token. He pointed out that existing translations like 'Ciyuan' (word unit) are limited to text scenarios, 'Yuyuan' (language unit) is confined to linguistic scope, and transliterations like 'Tuoken' lack practical meaning—none fit the needs of the multi-modal and agent era.
'Moyuan' combines 'Mo' (referring to AI models and multi-modality) and 'Yuan' (meaning basic unit). It has three key advantages: user-friendly for the public, directly applicable to core industry indicators, and compatible with future full-scene AI development.
