AI for Earthquake Safety: New Plan Announced at 2026 Conference
On July 19, the 2026 World AI Conference held an earthquake forum in Shanghai. It focused on how AI can help with earthquake prevention and disaster reduction. New tools were shown, like an AI system for earthquake science, a big model for earthquakes, and a smart processing system.
China's Earthquake Administration announced a plan called 'AI + Earthquake Prevention' for 2026-2028. Over the next three years, they will build an AI system with data, models, platforms, and apps. Key tasks include smart earthquake monitoring and AI-based early warning technology. The goal is to make AI fully support earthquake safety by 2028.
Right now, China's earthquake early warning service covers over 330 million people. There are more than 100,000 warning terminals across the country. TV and radio services reach 11 provinces with over 66 million users, and a WeChat mini-program has 46 million users. Through partnerships, real-time alerts can be sent to over 100 million mobile users, helping people stay safe.
