AI Lab HUMXN Offers Free Home Services to Record Workers for Robot Training
AI companies are moving offline to gather training data. HUMXN, an AI lab focused on real-world data, will partner with homeowners to record skilled workers on the job to train AI robots. Residents can get free services like plumbing, electrical work, HVAC, duct cleaning, and carpet cleaning. The condition: they must let people wearing capture devices record inside their homes. Founder Thomas Unise says robots need to understand how professionals interact with the physical world, but this kind of knowledge rarely comes in standard data formats. Real homes cover different devices, problems, and conditions, helping models learn the full process from inspection to finishing the job. The project starts in Minneapolis, Chicago, and Miami. Unlike Meta, NVIDIA, and OpenAI, which were accused of scraping data without permission, HUMXN pays residents for recording rights, showing AI firms may have to pay for real-world data.
