Amazon Acquires Consumer Humanoid Robot Startup Fauna Robotics
Amazon completed the acquisition of Fauna Robotics, a consumer humanoid robot startup, last week. Headquartered in New York, the company has about 50 employees and raised at least $30 million previously. Amazon did not disclose the transaction amount; Fauna will join its personal robot division and operate as a subsidiary. Additionally, Amazon also acquired logistics robot firm Rivr last week.
Fauna Robotics' Sprout robot is priced at $50,000 (about 345,000 RMB), based on the Nvidia Jetson Orin hardware platform, stands about 107 cm tall, supports natural voice interaction, and can perform actions like clapping, shaking hands, waving, and crawling with a 3-hour battery life on a single charge. After the acquisition, Fauna will still provide the Sprout robot to external researchers.
