Amazon AWS Accelerates Data Center Expansion; Total Power Capacity to Double by 2027
Amazon Web Services (AWS) added 3.9GW of data center power capacity in 2025 and plans to double its total power capacity by the end of 2027. Currently, AWS still faces computing power bottlenecks, and customer demand has not been fully met.
AWS's AI business achieved an annualized revenue of over $15 billion in the first quarter of 2026. Its self-developed chips include Nitro NIC, Graviton CPU, and Trainium XPU. Graviton CPU is in high demand—some large clients tried to book all its instance capacity this year but were rejected. Trainium4 chips are expected to launch in October 2027. If the chip business becomes independent and sells to third parties outside AWS, annual revenue could reach around $50 billion.
