Amazon Completes $50B OpenAI Investment Early

According to Amazon's financial report released this Friday, the company has completed its additional $35 billion investment in OpenAI ahead of schedule, bringing the total investment to $50 billion with a stake of about 5%. The investment stems from a multi-year strategic partnership reached in February, where Amazon initially invested $15 billion and planned to add $35 billion under certain conditions, but chose to fulfill it early.

Despite OpenAI not fully meeting conditions like IPO and tech breakthroughs, Amazon paid the final amount. Sources say OpenAI renegotiated its contract with Microsoft in April, paving the way for Amazon's investment. Amazon also backs Anthropic, a key OpenAI competitor.
