AMD and Anthropic partner up with 2GW GPU deal and $5 billion investment
AMD and AI company Anthropic announced a multi-level strategic partnership covering large-scale hardware deployment, equity investment, and deep engineering collaboration. Under the deal, AMD will provide 2GW of Instinct MI450 series GPUs to Anthropic, along with a $5 billion strategic equity investment commitment.
The two companies will launch a multi-year engineering collaboration using Anthropic's Claude model to optimize AMD Instinct GPU workloads and speed up ROCm software development. AMD also plans to widely adopt Claude across its engineering and product development teams.
AMD CEO Lisa Su said the partnership combines Anthropic's leadership in AI with AMD's high-performance computing to accelerate large-scale AI adoption. Anthropic co-founder Tom Brown noted that access to computing power is key to keeping Claude ahead, and the collaboration will optimize the hardware needed for training and serving.
