AMD reveals AI/HPC chip roadmap: CPU every 2 years, GPU every year
AMD revealed its AI/HPC chip roadmap at the Advancing AI 2026 event, following a pattern of new CPU every two years and new GPU every year. For CPUs, AMD plans to launch EPYC server chips with Zen 7 architecture in 2028, including Florence, Ferrara, and Fidenza variants. The Zen 8 Ravenna is set for 2030.
For GPUs, the next-gen Instinct MI500 accelerators arrive next year, with MI600 coming in 2028. At the rack level, the MI500-based Helios 500 system will use EPYC 9006 LP Verano CPUs with Pensando Como and Monza network chips. The MI600-based Helios 600 will feature Ferrara CPUs with Pensando Palma and Levanzo chips.
