AMD's second-gen AI servers start mass production
AMD CEO Lisa Su said Thursday that the company's second-generation AI servers have entered full production and are expected to ship by the end of the third quarter this year, with strong customer demand. The servers, called Helios, use AMD's new Instinct MI455X AI accelerator and the latest Venice CPU, both made by TSMC.
An OpenAI executive said the company plans to deploy Helios servers later this year. AMD is trying to grab market share from Nvidia in the fast-growing data center chip market. Su said AMD is making another big leap and believes it can take the lead in large-scale computing.
Su added that the global computing market is expected to reach $2 trillion by 2030, with $1.4 trillion from AI accelerators and $220 billion from CPUs.
