Anthropic considers building its own payment system

AI company Anthropic is thinking about building its own payment and billing systems to rely less on outside companies like Stripe. The team in charge of billing is looking at what to build themselves and what to keep using from others. They handle turning what people use into bills, including prices, payments, contracts, and reports. Right now, they're hiring for jobs like software engineers and program managers, and they want people with experience in payments. Reports say Anthropic made 11.5 billion dollars in the second quarter of 2026, which is more than 14 times what they made the year before. Because they're growing so fast, they need better control over how they charge customers. They offer plans like Pro, Max, and also charge by token for API users. If they build their own system, they can directly manage bills, discounts, and money reports.
