Anthropic hires ex-Google TPU exec to boost chip efforts

Anthropic said on Friday that Amir Salek, a former founding executive of Google's TPU project, will join its computing team. Salek led Google's TPU business until 2022, delivering the first seven TPU chips, and previously worked at Nvidia.

Anthropic currently buys chips from Nvidia, Google, and Amazon, but has signaled plans to build its own chips and started hiring. This could ease supply issues and better match hardware to its algorithms.

Rival OpenAI is also working on its own chip, "Jalapeño," with Broadcom, set to launch later this year.
