Anthropic pauses billing change for Claude Agent SDK after developer backlash
Anthropic has paused its plan to change billing for the Claude Agent SDK. The change, set for June 15, would have shifted SDK calls from a standard subscription to per-token API pricing. Developers complained loudly, saying costs would spike. For instance, using Opus as a main coding assistant could break even within a week. The team behind Zed editor also warned users of a 'major cost increase'. Anthropic then updated its support page, saying the change is 'paused' and 'nothing is changing right now', and that it's working on a better plan. The Claude Agent SDK is an open-source framework that lets developers use Claude Code's core abilities directly.
