Anthropic's First Japan Data Center Nears Final Deal, a 500MW Facility Set for Osaka
According to Nikkei Asia, talks between Anthropic and NTT DATA over Anthropic's first data center in Japan have entered the final stage. The two sides expect to reach a final deal within this fiscal year, with partial operation starting as early as 2028.
The AI computing facility will be located in Osaka, with a planned capacity of 500MW. Construction alone will cost more than 1 trillion yen, about 422.91 billion yuan. It will later be equipped with a large number of high-value chips.
For power supply, the data center will initially use behind-the-meter electricity, such as on-site generation from fuel cells, leaving more time for the power infrastructure to be ready. This is also Anthropic's first computing facility in Japan.
