Apple's AI Wearable Pendant Project Reportedly Delayed
Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman reports that Apple had been developing an AI wearable device with a camera, shaped like a pendant that can be worn around the neck, clipped to clothing, or attached to other parts of the body. The project has now been delayed, and Apple has not announced any future launch plans.
The device was originally envisioned as an "always-on" visual sensing terminal that would collect visual information through its camera and send it to Apple's next-generation Siri AI assistant for processing. It may also have included a microphone for receiving voice commands, providing recognition, recording, and assistance services without requiring hands-on operation.
Gurman says Apple has shelved the project. The specific reason for the delay remains unclear, and it is uncertain whether the company will resume development in the future. If the project restarts, continuous collection of visual and voice data could pose significant privacy and security challenges, including unintended recording of bystanders, sensitive scenes being captured, and questions about how user data is stored and handled.
