Bilibili unveils open-source AI digital life project 'Neko'

At the 2026 World AI Conference in Shanghai, Bilibili showed off its open-source AI digital life project called 'Project N.E.K.O.' (also known as 'Cat Girl Plan'). The main feature is an always-on AI companion that can see, hear, and feel emotions. It uses a special engine to understand the environment around it.

Users can bring in their favorite anime characters or virtual streamers, thanks to support for Live2D and VRM. The system can even see what's on your computer screen. Your data stays on your own device, so you have full control. The project has over 2,000 stars on GitHub and more than 10,000 users on Steam, where it's now available in early access.
