ByteDance Delays Doubao 2.2 to Boost Coding and Agent Skills
ByteDance's Doubao 2.2 model, originally set for August, is now delayed. Sources say the team wants more training time to improve coding, tool use, and agent abilities. The company is balancing next-gen model work with current updates, seeing 2.2 as a key bridge. They aim to make coding skills as impactful as GLM-5.2 and Kimi-K3 by year-end. Founder Zhang Yiming said they won't rely on AI distillation, even if it means falling behind. CEO Liang Rubo echoed this, focusing on self-research and long-term gains.
