ByteDance Denies Developing Doubao Phone, Will Open AI Capabilities to Hardware Vendors
In response to rumors of ByteDance developing a 'Doubao Phone', relevant officials clearly stated the news is untrue—Doubao has no plans to launch its own mobile products. Doubao is committed to opening its AI capabilities to hardware manufacturers including phone makers, and while it tests solutions with partners, it won’t develop its own phones.
Previously, ByteDance’s acquisition of Smartisan Technology patents sparked phone market speculation, but its New Stone Lab later merged into the education hardware team and stopped phone development. As ByteDance’s AI product, Doubao had over 160 million cumulative users in 2024, with 800k daily new downloads in November and nearly 9 million daily active users.
Technically, Doubao’s image editing model SeedEdit3.0 is on Volcano Ark, and Xiaomi Browser integrated Doubao to enhance AI search efficiency.
