ByteDance's Doubao Model Hits 180 Trillion Daily Tokens, Shifts Focus to Enterprise Services

At the 2026 Volcano Engine Force conference, company president Tan Dai said Doubao model now handles 180 trillion tokens daily, up 1,500 times since launch. CEO Liang Rubo said the company's key focus is 'climbing peaks' to improve AI models, with Volcano Engine's PaaS becoming a core business. The video model Seedance will add a 3D preview feature, a first in the industry.

Despite over 200 million daily users, Doubao app earns less than 1 million yuan per day from e-commerce commissions. But its computing costs reach tens of millions daily. So ByteDance is shifting from consumer products to enterprise services. Seedance now has $2 billion in annual recurring revenue, mostly from business clients, covering Doubao's computing costs.
