ChatGPT Adds Workspace Agents: 24/7 Online to Automate Complex Team Collaboration Tasks
OpenAI recently launched Workspace Agents in ChatGPT, enabling teams to create collaborative agents that solve cross-timezone and cross-tool collaboration challenges. Powered by Codex, these agents handle various office tasks like report preparation and code writing, running 24/7 in the cloud even when employees are offline.
Agents have file handling, code execution, tool calling, and memory storage capabilities for multi-step complex operations. They support scheduled tasks and Slack integration—for example, product teams can use agents to auto-answer employee questions and link documents; sales teams use them to integrate call records, filter leads, and draft emails, saving manual time.
Currently available for ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, Edu, and Teachers plan users in research preview, it's free until May 6, 2026, then switches to a credit-based billing model. Future features like auto-triggers will further reduce collaboration costs.
