ChatGPT can now read your browser tabs and take actions for you
OpenAI has updated its ChatGPT extension for Chrome. The new version can read multiple tabs open in the browser, then answer questions, organize info, or finish tasks across pages. It's free for all users, no paid plan needed.
The update also adds stronger "action" features. In Work mode, ChatGPT can control tabs with your permission, helping you fill out forms, send messages, download files, and group tabs. It can also reuse your existing logins, so it works right inside Gmail, LinkedIn, and other sites.
But this convenience needs bigger permissions, like reading and changing site data, managing tabs, downloads, and browsing history. OpenAI says users can control access by approving each site one by one. By default, ChatGPT asks for confirmation before visiting any new site, and "always allow on all sites" is flagged as a higher-risk option.
