ChatGPT enters top 10 most impersonated brands in phishing attacks
Cybersecurity firm Check Point released its Q2 2026 report on phishing impersonation, showing OpenAI's ChatGPT entered the top 10 most impersonated brands for the first time, ranking 10th with 1.1% of attacks. This marks hackers increasingly targeting AI tools as high-value targets.
Microsoft remains the most impersonated brand, accounting for 23% of all phishing activities, followed by LinkedIn (11.6%), Google (6.7%), and Apple (5.8%). Hackers send fake ChatGPT emails to trick users into clicking malicious links.
Check Point says as AI tools become part of daily work and life, more AI platforms may become impersonation targets. These platforms are now as attractive to attackers as major banks and tech companies, suggesting phishing tactics will diversify.
