ChatGPT tests new voice model Bidi 1 that listens while talking

Some ChatGPT users have spotted a new voice model called Bidi 1 in both web and app versions. It's located in the settings under model selection, next to standard and advanced voice options, and turns the chat bubble yellow when selected.

The key feature of Bidi 1 is that it can talk and listen at the same time. In a test video, ChatGPT could keep speaking while still hearing the user, and respond to new commands mid-conversation. For example, when asked to count from 1 to 10 and then interrupted to count backwards, it switched immediately.

This makes the conversation feel more natural, like talking to a real person, without waiting for the AI to finish speaking. OpenAI hasn't officially announced it yet, but media expect wider testing to start this week.
