China Media University Plans to Cut 16 Undergraduate Majors Including Translation Amid AI Wave
Amid the AI wave, the education sector is undergoing changes. Liao Xiangzhong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Communication University of China, stated that the university plans to cut 16 undergraduate majors and directions including translation and photography. The reason is that the future will enter the "human-AI division era", making education reform urgent and requiring a complete restructuring of classroom teaching.
Liao Xiangzhong mentioned that the emergence of Seedance 2.0 shocked him deeply, prompting him to think about the future direction of education. He believes teaching should focus on knowledge points, difficulties, and connections with the future, find solutions, and leave the rest to AI for students to learn. In addition, the university already planned to cancel 7 majors in 2025; combined with this statement, it is expected that these 16 majors will be added to the cut list for 2026 enrollment.
