China punishes person for using AI to create fake stock market articles
Police in Nanchong, Sichuan, China, recently punished an individual for using AI to create fake stock market articles. In May, Wang used an AI model to generate a 3000-word article with misleading predictions about China's A-share market and false interpretations of securities regulations. The article was posted on Jinritoutiao to attract traffic and make money.
The police found that Wang's actions spread false information and disrupted financial market order. The fake article has been removed. This is another case after Beijing's securities regulator punished a similar 'AI-written article' incident in May. In that case, the person earned 173.70 yuan by publishing fake news and was fined 250,000 yuan.
China's securities law bans spreading false or misleading information that disrupts the stock market. Violators must give up illegal gains and pay a fine of one to ten times those gains. If there are no gains or gains are less than 200,000 yuan, the fine is between 200,000 and 2 million yuan.
