China ranks second globally in AI computing power, with over 450 million generative AI users
A report from China's National Data Administration shows that by the end of 2025, China's smart computing power reached 1.59 million PFLOPS, ranking second globally. The country had over 13.73 million standard racks of computing facilities and built 42 large-scale AI computing clusters.
By the end of 2025, China had 1.125 billion internet users, with an internet penetration rate of 80.1%. Among them, 457 million used AI for answering questions, 288 million for generating images and videos, and 184 million as daily assistants. Generative AI is becoming part of everyday life, with 74.6% of users being under 40.
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology plans to establish computing interconnection standards by 2026 and achieve nationwide public computing standardization by 2028. Experts predict AI will contribute over 11 trillion yuan to China's GDP by 2035, driving a tenfold or even hundredfold increase in computing demand.
