China's crackdown on AI-altered videos shows results, with violations dropping
China's National Radio and Television Administration says its campaign against AI-altered videos, launched in January 2026, is working. Major online video platforms reported removing nearly 7,600 fake videos and shutting down over 20 accounts in June.
The crackdown targets AI-modified versions of classic films and TV shows, including works based on historical figures and revolutionary themes. Since February, the effort has become a regular, long-term task, with platforms stepping up daily checks.
The number of removed videos has been dropping: over 11,000 in April, over 8,000 in May, and now 7,600 in June. This shows the campaign is effectively curbing the misuse of AI to alter classic content, helping to clean up the online video environment.
