China's first self-developed smart welding robots for ocean engineering put into use in Tianjin
China has officially put into use its first batch of self-developed smart welding robots for flexible manufacturing in ocean engineering. These robots are designed for tough welding tasks like oil platforms, with a 20-year lifespan and a max load of 30 tons. All core software and processes are 100% homegrown.
The system features over 10 innovations, including AI visual recognition for welds and 3D laser vision for intelligent assembly. It can start with one click, automatically complete welding, and adjust paths smartly. The team also solved tricky issues like recognizing variable-section welding grooves and planning complex routes.
The system was assembled last August and passed nearly 10 months of testing and verification. Its high adaptability and flexibility effectively handle complex welding needs for large ocean engineering structures.
