China's Greater Bay Area launches a massive homegrown AI computing cluster
A massive homegrown AI computing cluster with over 10,000 cards has gone live in Shaoguan, part of China's Greater Bay Area. The project cost 5.5 billion yuan and uses 11,520 domestic AI accelerator cards from Huawei's Ascend series, reaching 9,000P of computing power with world-class performance. It's a key part of China's national computing network. Built entirely with domestic technology—from chips to operating systems and algorithms—the cluster was completed in just 90 days. It's currently used for research, but will later support large-scale AI inference and digital upgrades for small businesses in the region, boosting the local digital economy.
