China to boost high-quality Token services, carriers launch Token plans
China's Academy of Information and Communications Technology will hold a 'High-Quality Token Service Seminar' in Beijing on June 16 to boost the industry's Token service capabilities. A special research group and a 'High-Quality Token Service Capability Climbing Plan' will be launched to support the standardization of Token services.
Token, the smallest computing unit for AI models to process text, code, images, and more, is becoming a key metric for AI services. By March 2026, China's daily Token usage exceeded 140 trillion, a thousand-fold increase from early 2024. Carriers like China Mobile and China Telecom have introduced Token plans, with China Mobile starting at 5 yuan per month and China Telecom offering plans from 9.9 to 49.9 yuan per month.
