Chinese AI Model Helps Crack 30-Year-Old Math Problem
The 3D Ghys conjecture was proposed by French mathematician Etienne Ghys in 1995. It is seen as one of the key open problems in dynamical systems and has puzzled mathematicians for over 30 years.
Shanghai AI Laboratory announced that a team led by Xu Disheng, visiting scholar and professor at the Greater Bay Area University, completed the proof with the InternLM-based scientific model S2 through human-AI collaboration. Teams from Peking University formally verified the proof using the SHEAF framework. The paper is on arXiv and the code is open-sourced on GitHub.
The lab said this work linked expert insight with machine solving in a closed loop, showing a new research model that can be applied to more fields.
The team will package this ability into the DuanYan scientific discovery platform as a reusable math verification module and extend it to other related fields.
