Claude Code Users Report Abnormally Fast Session Credit Depletion? Anthropic Responds: Peak Hour Allocation Adjustment

Recently, many Claude Code users reported that their session credits are depleting abnormally fast. Under the same usage intensity, a session window that used to last 5 hours now runs out in 1-2 hours. Some users encountered extreme cases where one prompt caused usage to jump from 21% to 100%.

Anthropic stated that to handle growing demand for Claude, it adjusted the 5-hour session limit for free/Pro/Max subscriptions during peak hours. Weekly total credits remain unchanged. From 5 AM to 11 AM Pacific Time (8 PM to 2 AM Beijing Time) on workdays, credits deplete faster. About 7% of users, especially premium subscribers, are more likely to hit limits, so high-token tasks are suggested to be moved to off-peak times.
