Claude Desktop App Gets Built-in Browser for Web Tasks
Anthropic has added a built-in browser to the Cowork feature in the Claude desktop app. When a task needs a website, the browser opens automatically in the sidebar, and Claude can browse, read content, click buttons, and type text on its own. This browser is fully separate from your regular one, protecting your privacy, and you can import login info site by site.
It's great for tasks like filling forms or pulling data from dashboards, while the Claude in Chrome extension is better for pages you already have open. You can switch your preferred browser in settings. The feature rolls out to Pro, Max, and Team users this week, and Enterprise is already available.
To guard against prompt injection, Anthropic uses safety measures similar to Claude in Chrome, like checking that actions match your original request. Risks can't be fully eliminated, so it's best to let Claude visit sites you trust.
