Claude Max vs ChatGPT Pro: Subscription Cost vs API Value

Research firm SemiAnalysis tested the subscription plans of Anthropic's Claude Max and OpenAI's ChatGPT Pro, both priced at $200 per month. They found that users could consume Tokens worth up to $8,000 and $14,000 respectively based on API pricing.

The test simulated heavy professional use by running high-load coding tasks until weekly limits were reached. Claude Max's 20x plan offered Tokens worth about $8,000, while ChatGPT Pro's 20x plan reached $14,000 in value.

This means using the API directly costs much more than the subscription. Some experts say this pricing might not last long, especially as heavy users push the limits, making it harder for companies to balance costs and revenue.
