Cloudflare Launches Open Source Library for AI Agent Virtual Work Computers

Cloudflare has launched an early preview of @cloudflare/computer, an open source library that gives each AI agent its own virtual work computer with file system and command execution. It solves the need for coding AI agents to read, edit, and test files repeatedly, and uses a lightweight Isolate environment to cut resource use compared to traditional containers.

The library uses SQLite for a virtual file system and can import content from cloud storage or Git repos. It offers tools like read, write, and exec, with two backends: an isolated environment for light tasks, and a container backend with full Linux for running npm or native binaries. Permissions and audit logs keep AI actions in check.
