Counterpoint: HBM demand slowdown fears are based on wrong info
Rumors have been spreading that demand for HBM memory is slowing down, raising concerns across the memory industry. HBM stands for High Bandwidth Memory. It stacks chips to boost data speed and is a key part of AI chips.
Research firm Counterpoint Research says these worries are "based on misinformation." According to its review, the trend of using high-stacked HBM memory will continue. More NVIDIA Rubin GPUs will move to 12-layer HBM4, and ASIC solutions won't fall back to 4-layer HBM either.
More layers mean more capacity and bandwidth, but they are also harder to make. The firm believes that for AI XPU workloads, keeping enough bandwidth and capacity matters more than cutting costs.
