Counterpoint Report: One in Three Smartphones Will Feature AI Agent Capabilities by 2027

Counterpoint Research's latest report shows that by the end of 2025, the penetration rate of smartphone chips with AI agent capabilities was only 4%, indicating an early-stage market. However, the report predicts that by 2027, one in three sold smartphones will have AI agent features, driven mainly by high-end and mid-to-high-end models.

MediaTek and Qualcomm have launched chips supporting AI agents, while Apple, Samsung, Google, and others are also developing related technologies. OpenAI may release an AI phone in the future, redesigning user experience around AI agents. The report states that the CAGR of AI agent smartphone chip shipments will reach 281% from 2025 to 2027, driving the next wave of phone upgrades and accelerating market high-endization.
