District 9 director Neill Blomkamp releases an AI-generated short film 'Nightborne'

South African director Neill Blomkamp, known for 'District 9', has released his first AI short film 'Nightborne'. The 13-minute film is fully generated by ByteDance's Seedance 2.0 model, with Blomkamp directing each frame using text prompts. Only 32 real actors' appearances and voices were licensed.

Shot in a documentary style, the short tells the story of a US Army helicopter pilot used in a secret super-soldier program after his death. Blomkamp plans to make a feature film the same way and has founded Barley Studios to replace his traditional film studio Oats Studios.
