Doctors Warn AI Use by Med Students May Prevent Learning
Two medical experts wrote in The Guardian that medical students using AI too much may never learn to reason. They said doctors who never learned to reason may not be able to learn it later.
About two-thirds of US doctors use OpenEvidence, a clinical AI chatbot. But a new study in Nature Medicine found medical AI tools answer questions worse than general chatbots like ChatGPT and Claude. The experts say AI can help find info but can't replace hard thinking during learning.
They suggest trainees should work on cases without AI regularly, like pilots fly manually sometimes, and use shame as a motivator.
