Doubao AI model hits 180 trillion daily tokens, launches 2.1 series with coding and agent breakthroughs

At the 2026 Summer FORCE conference, ByteDance's Volcano Engine revealed that as of June 2026, the Doubao AI model's daily API token usage hit 180 trillion, a 10x increase in a year. In China's public cloud MaaS market, Volcano Engine's token share rose to 49.5%, delivering nearly half of all tokens for two years. The 'Trillion Tokens Club' now has over 200 members, doubling in six months.

The new Doubao 2.1 series breaks through production-level barriers in coding and agent tasks. The flagship 2.1 Pro model matches or beats Claude Opus 4.6 on key benchmarks, scoring 59.8 on SciCode (above Claude Opus 4.7 and GPT-5.5) and 47.0 on NL2Repo-Bench (leading GPT-5.5). For agent tasks, it ranks first in China on GDPval and outperforms Claude Opus 4.7 and GPT-5.5 on MCP-Atlas.

The multimodal lineup also gets upgrades: Seedance 2.5 video model (launching July) supports 30-second clips and 50 inputs; image and audio models get new versions. Pricing for 2.1 Pro is 6 yuan per million input tokens and 30 yuan for output, cutting costs by nearly 80% vs Claude Opus 4.6. It's already deployed at WPS, Unity, Arm China, and New Oriental, covering office, gaming, semiconductors, and education.
